# For a developer: connect an agent

> Point an MCP client at the public endpoint and ask a question. No account is needed.

**Is the public MCP endpoint the same as the platform's tenant API?**

No. The public endpoint at https://octo.ad/mcp has one tool, ask_octopus, and answers questions about OCTOPUS from public material; it exposes no customer data and no internal graph. Customer knowledge is reached through authenticated, tenant-scoped connections. Those tools are not published here and are shared under early access.

## Steps

1. For MCP, follow [Connect an AI client over MCP](/integrations/connect-over-mcp/). The full steps, with examples.
2. For plain HTTP, follow [Ask over REST](/integrations/ask-over-rest/).
3. For customer work, ask for early access. Tenant tools are not published: [Tenant APIs and tools](/reference/tenant-tools/).

## What you have at the end

Your agent can ask about OCTOPUS from public material. The public endpoint exposes no customer data.
